Changing the Way Canadians Think About Disability

Rolling Rampage

THE 6TH ANNUAL ROLLING RAMPAGE ON THE HILL

Thank you for joining in our celebration of the 6th Annual Rolling Rampage event on Parliament Hill.

The Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons has dedicated itself to promoting the vast, unheralded wealth of talent and ability in Canada’s disability community. Sports and Canada's paralympians, in particular, have always been a central focus of that campaign because we believe in the power of sport to heal and inspire. In recognizing outstanding athletic achievement Foundation projects like the Terry Fox Hall of Fame, the Great Valentines Gala and the WhyNot Marathon have served notice to the world that people with disabilities are every bit as gifted and accomplished as their able-bodied peers. The Rolling Rampage will connect these athletes with the enthusiastic audience that they deserve. I want to pay special tribute to our Rolling Rampage sponsors of 2011: Scotiabank Group, ICICI Bank, Suncor Energy, and hyundai whose leadership is helping to usher in a new era of opportunity for these world class competitors. Corporate support is essential to the continued growth and success of elite sport for people with disabilities and I commend our sponsors of their vision and commitment.

Honourable Vim Kochhar

Senator

Torch Run
Correction:  We regret the inadvertent misspelling of Nicholas Occomore's name in our WhyNot Magazine.  Following, is the corrected text.

The spirit of athletic sport is often embodied in a torch of fire representing passion and dedication. For one grade five Bells Corners Public School Student, holding it was a dream come true. Nicholas Occomore was selected to carry the official torch of this year’s Rolling Rampage. Holding the torch with pride while in a wheelchair of his own, Nicholas, with the assistance of Senator Vim Kochhar, kicked off the start of the 10KM Wheelchair Race. For Nicholas, this will be a story to tell for many years to come!
